My church has a tradition of having our children provide a program during sacrament meeting once a year. We call it the Primary Program. During this annual sacrament meeting, we had the opportunity to hear from our children (4 – 11 years old). This program includes the children singing songs they have learned over the year as well as them sharing a topic that they learned during the year in Primary. For the younger children, this usually includes them reciting a short sentence that has been prepared for them. But the older children, including my daughter, often get to share something they learned or experienced that strengthened their testimony. This year, my daughter shared a story where one of her friends said some unkind things to her in front of her friends. She expressed how this felt and hurt her heart. This experience occurred at school and at the end of the school year. My daughter thought about this experience all summer. As she learned from this experience, she decided she wasn’t comfortable just moving on. Instead, when the new school year came, she went to her friend and shared how she felt. She also took responsibility for anything she had done to cause the situation. In the end, both girls apologized to each other and moved on as friends. This experience helped my daughter understand the power of taking responsibility and the power of forgiveness. In the end, everything worked out, and she could feel the love of the Savior as she made things right.
What a wonderful opportunity to learn from my 11-year-old daughter. The experience of this year’s primary program helped me better understand how our Heavenly Father sends the perfect person to help us along the path. Today, my ward’s primary helped me to learn more about the love of my Heavenly Father and my Savior, Jesus Christ.
