Amateur radio is a hobby that has something to offer everyone. Ham radio operators can find themselves involved in parades, emergency communication, contesting, MESH networking and so much more. One of the common themes is that we like to talk to people (at least we do on the air). One part of the hobby is contesting. I’m not so much into that, but from time to time I do like to jump on the radio and see how many people I can make contact with. To encourage people to “get on the air” organizations like the ARRL will have awards that you can work toward. One of the awards is the Worked All States award. To achieve this award a ham radio operator has to make contact with someone in all 50 States. These contacts then have to be confirmed. To confirm a contact both the sender and receiver have to send in a report that matches. After a VERY long time, I finally made my 50th contact. Delaware was my missing state. Currently, in my log, I have over 800 contacts, but only one Delaware. So with that, I have sent in my application and am now waiting for it to be processed! Radio is FUN!
